How to Wash Your Patagonia Fleece: Care Tips for Cleaning Your Favorite Jackets and Pullovers

Patagonia fleece is famous for its comfort, performance, and sustainable design. This article delivers guidance on how to successfully wash your Patagonia fleece jackets and pullovers.

Patagonia: Quality, Sustainability, Social Responsibility

If you're the proud owner of Patagonia clothing or gear, you know there’s a lot to love about the brand. Patagonia outerwear is an investment in cozy warmth and outdoor style; you’re also supporting a brand known as a beacon of sustainability and environmental consciousness. From making clothing and travel bags from recycled materials to its innovative "Worn Wear"program, which promotes the repair, reuse, and resale of old garments, Patagonia sets a high standard for eco-friendly practices.

Patagonia Fleece Deserves All Our Love

We are not adventure travelers by any stretch (we’ve never been fly fishing and don’t own a sleeping bag). Nonetheless, we are super attached to our Patagonia fleece, including our Patagonia Better Sweater Fleece Jacket,Retro PileMarsupial, and Dusty Mesa fleece parka. all of which we adore for their comfort, performance, and sustainable pedigree (not to mention the ironclad guarantee Patagonia provides). Made from recycled polyester fleece, these products reduce the demand for virgin materials and help divert waste from landfills. Along with the “Worn Wear Program,” Patagonia’s circular approach to consumption aligns perfectly with our ethos at Heritage Park Laundry Detergent, where we prioritize environmental stewardship and responsible consumer habits. That’s why we are happy to share the steps we take for washing and caring for our own families’ Patagonia fleece.

Choose the Best Detergent for Washing Your Patagonia Fleece

How to Wash Your Patagonia Fleece

Now, let's dive into the essential steps for washing your Patagonia fleece jacket or pullover.

Step 1: Read the Product Care Label

Always start by reading the care instructions on your Patagonia fleece. These are specific directions that offer best practices on washing protocols.

Step 2: Pre-treat Stains

If your Patagonia fleece has any stains, pre-treat them immediately with a solution of Heritage Park All-Purpose Laundry Detergent and water in a spray bottle. You can also use an enzyme stain remover or stick.

Step 3: Wash with Care

Turn your fleece garment inside out to protect the outer surface. You can also place your fleece in an extra-large mesh laundry bag to prevent snagging. Wash fleece by itself or in a fleece-only load. Place it in a mesh laundry bag to prevent snagging during the wash cycle. Use cold water, cool water, or warm water; synthetic material does not need to be washed in hot water. Always choose a gentle cycle to avoid damaging the fleece.

Step 4: Skip the Harsh Chemicals

Avoid using bleach, fabric softener, or dryer sheets when washing your Patagonia fleece. These products can degrade the fabric and diminish its performance over time.

Step 5: Air Drying is Preferred

After washing, lay your Patagonia fleece to air dry on a drying rack; reshape if necessary. If air drying is not an option, tumble dry on low heat. Check every 30 minutes. You can speed drying time and naturally soften your fleece by tossing our natural wool dryer balls in the dryer.

Heritage Park Laundry Essentials

At Heritage Park, caring for fine fabric is our passion. As lifelong collectors of luxury sheets, towels, and cloths, we found many commercially available "gentle detergents" either damaged our fabrics or didn't get the job done, leaving stains. We knew we could do better. So we developed a formula with the perfect balance of powerful -- yet safe -- ingredients designed to remove tough, set-in stains while remaining gentle on luxury linens.
